Sarments Vignobles is a small family-run group of gems from Bordeaux’s right bank,
created in 2011 by entrepreneur Frédéric Stévenin. Libourne-based Anthony Appollot
leads the work in the vineyards and Bruno Lacoste oversees the cellars.
The group was built up step by step around Châteaux Vieux Maillet and Cantereau (Pomerol),
Château de Saint-Pey (Saint-Émilion Grand Cru), Château de Lussac (Lussac Saint-Émilion)
and Château Saint-Jean de Lavaud (Lalande de Pomerol).
All these vineyards are organic or in the process of being converted for the most recent additions.
The team has introduced a host of innovations in the vineyards,
such as intelligent spraying, and in the cellars, with the introduction of ‘Tribaie’, a densimetric bath,
and amphorae to produce more supple, less full-bodied wines for greater ease of drinking.
This ambitious new player on the Right Bank aims to put “modernity at the service of authenticity“.
Château Vieux Maillet
Château Vieux Maillet is the jewel in the group’s crown, a superb vineyard ideally situated on the clay plateau of Pomerol, where numerous technological innovations have been introduced both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
A rarity in Pomerol, the Château Vieux Maillet cellar boasts a terracotta amphora room, which adds complexity to the win. The 2026 vintage will be the first to be certified organic.
Château de Lussac
Château de Lussac is the group’s hospitality showcase. Set in a Renaissance-style theatre on a hilltop in Lussac Saint-Emilion, it offers guest rooms where you can experience “the château lifestyle”. The wines are harvested in the vineyards around the Château and vinified on site in a magnificent circular cellar with all the care and innovation of the group.
Château de Saint-Pey
Château de Saint-Pey is the birthplace of the group.
It is here, in these 25 hectares of deep clay at the foot of the Saint-Émilion hillside, that the Group’s innovations are first tested.
The new winery, inaugurated in September 2024, features an experimental cellar for testing plot-by-plot ageing in tuns, amphorae and concrete, as well as a test centre for assessing the interaction between the tannins in the wood and those in the grapes. This new venue is dedicated to more technical winemaking, in keeping with the new gourmet style of the wines.
Château Cantereau
Château Cantereau offers a gourmet approach to the world of Pomerol. This 3-hectare vineyard to the west of the appellation, planted entirely with Merlot on a sandy-gravel terroir, is vinified in stainless steel vats and matured in 500-litre barrels and amphorae to preserve the freshness and crispness of the fruit.
From its first vintage in 2022, this new estate, which is converting to organic farming, has made a remarkable entry into the Primeurs tasting series.
Château Saint-Jean de Lavaud
Château Saint-Jean de Lavaud is a ’boutique vineyard’ of just one hectare, on a magnificent gravelly hillside to the south of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. Its old vines are planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc using the ancestral method. The two grape varieties are vinified together in co-fermentation and matured in 500-litre barrels to preserve their fruitiness.
This atypical gem has a unique, well-balanced personality, with a lovely tannic structure.
